Why is Foundation.nl participating in the Open Air Festival?

We are consciously taking part in order to voice a critical perspective within existing structures, in line with our mission of inclusivity and social responsibility. Our presence allows us to take a public stance and create impact.

 

What is your position on the ownership structure behind Open Air (Superstruct / KKR)?

We are aware of the involvement of investment firm KKR and the concerns regarding their investments in environmentally harmful industries and companies linked to the situation in Israel and Palestine. We view this as problematic and aim to address it publicly.

 

Isn’t participation contrary to your values?

On the contrary. By participating while openly expressing our criticism, we reinforce our values. We choose to use this platform to raise social issues instead of staying on the sidelines.

 

What are you doing with the proceeds from this collaboration?

All of our earnings from this collaboration will be donated to a charity providing direct humanitarian aid to affected populations in Gaza.

 

Why are you making this decision public?

Transparency is a core value for us. We believe it’s important for the public to understand the considerations behind our decisions. This way, we contribute to a broader societal conversation about ethics in the cultural sector.

 

How will you continue to address this issue?

We will keep engaging with organizers, partners, and peer institutions about the role and responsibility of cultural organizations in relation to funding sources. We see this not as a one-time action, but as an ongoing point of focus.

 

What do you expect from Open Air itself?

That they open themselves to dialogue about their funding and take responsibility toward creating a more sustainable and socially just festival practice.
